Your grate should be about 75% the size of your fireplace floor. The depth % changes for very shallow or deep fireplaces. Allow 3"-4" clearance underneath for proper airflow to the fire and 6"-8" behind glass doors. Enter your dimensions into our grate size calculator. For round grates use the inner diameter of the fire pit for all 3 dimensions. You may need more clearance under the grate for airflow depending on how the fire pit is constructed.
Hearth Creations grates are custom made using 3/4" thick bars and have a lifetime warranty. Stainless steel grates are necessary for outdoor fireplaces. For simplicity and everyday use, these are the best grates for the money if you need a custom size.

These hand forged wrought iron grates are the heaviest in the industry. They can be made in virtually any size from 12" to over 96" width and 8" to 48" deep using wrought iron bars up to 1" x 1" thickness. The standard clearance is 3" from the floor to the bottom of the grate, but can be customized. Each grate is forged to last a lifetime without sagging and will add a touch of opulence to your fireplace. The wrought iron grates come in standard or custom sizes. The "From" prices below are based on the smallest standard size. Custom sizes add about 30% to 50% to the cost. Here are the basic standard sizes for the 4 types of wrought iron grates:

These fireplace grate fronts are designed to be combined with our FB-3 Footed Box Grate, FB-4 Footed Grill or they can be made as a stand alone decorative piece that adds a look of elegance to your fireplace. They look great standing in front of a gas log and are an excellent way to spruce up an open fireplace that already has a functional grate. The box grates and grills have 3/4" W x 1/2" Thick bars solid steel bars that are replaceable should they start to sag over the years. You can also add the grill fronts to our custom wrought iron grates which have 3/4" x 3/4" or 1" x 1" solid wrought iron bars.
