Note from the Webmaster: Finishes appear different on every computer screen, so there is no way to accurately represent any finish on the Internet. They also can look quite different depending on the lighting in your room and the lighting when they were photographed. These are pictures of samples that we took in natural sunlight. Some of the samples have scratches and imperfections from being handled over time, so they do not represent the true quality of the finished products. Samples are available for purchase (call for details).

Powder coat finishes are applied electrostatically, and are then cured buy heat. This type of finishing process is superior to high temperature paint because it forms a hard coating over the metal that is highly impervious to heat and will not rust. The process is precisely formulated and produces very consistent results with fewer imperfections. It is also the least expensive finishing process, although it has limitations and cannot replicate the more expensive artistic finishes that are hand crafted.
Steel Doors & Aluminum Doors
Artisan Premier finishes are hand applied by skilled craftsman and then coated with a heat resistant baked on enamel for durability. These are hand applied textures and finishes, so each product will differ slightly and have a character of it's own. If you are looking for a more consistent finish we recommend you stick with the Powder coat finishes.
Steel Doors Only
Steel Hand Crafted finishes are distressed finishes applied by a blacksmith. These are the most labor intensive and most expensive finishes because they require a highly skilled craftsman to produce them. These are hand applied textures and finishes, so each product will differ slightly and have a character of it's own. If you are looking for a more consistent finish we recommend you stick with the Powder coat finishes.
Steel Doors Only
Metallic finishes are plated steel finishes that are either highly polished or have a brushed satin texture. They have a heat resistant baked on enamel coating for extra durability around the fire. Satin finishes may be machine or hand sanded to achieve the satin look, so some imperfections and variations in the grain of the finish are to be expected.
DISCONTINUED NOTICE: As of 9/1/2024 the plated metallic finishes are currently discontinued due to quality issues by the supplier. They may be re-introduced at a later date if a new supplier that meeds Design Specialties quality control standards is found.
