Customer Request: I am in need of glass doors with mesh/screening behind the glass doors. I am looking for something in Black and plain/nothing fancy. I need the glass doors to be vented. I have a brick fireplace and the hearth is above the firebox. I am looking for something that is affordable. That is most important to me.
Comments: Due to the large size of your fireplace opening, there are no stock size doors that will fit, so your doors will need to be custom made. Unfortunately, custom doors are about double the price of stock doors, but we will do the best we can. The Aluminum doors are all the same price, roughly $1200 for an overlap fit and just under $1000 if we fit the door inside. We only recommend the inside fit in this application because it is about $200 less than an overlap fit just because the overall frame size falls in a lower price bracket. The inside fit will require you to fill in the gaps between the bricks and the frame with mortar. This is a lot more work, but may be worth the $200 savings if you do this yourself. If you pay someone to install the door, they will likely charge you $200 for the installation due to the mortar work, so you might as well do an outside fit. Although the inside fit is more difficult to install, it does create a good look. So, this is the best we can do for you.
Please keep in mind that we do not quote exact prices here on our project pages because these get archived over the years and prices change, so we will quote exact prices over the phone or via email at the time of purchase.
If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.
We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
