Ledger Stone Fireplace Glass Doors - Project #10089

Customer Request: We are interested in the brookfield fireplace (DS-Custom-Brookfield) door with grey glass and the same coating (what is it) that is in your display picture on your website. We are not interested in any other special features to the doors. We want fireplace doors for two reasons (1) appearance and (2) to keep out chimney drafts.

Opening Size: 36 3/16" W x 28 1/8" H

Recommended Make To Size: 35 11/16" W x 27 7/8" H (based on above measurements)

Our Comments: Due to the irregularity in the surface of the stone, we recommend an inside fit with mortar on the top and sides. We will make the door 1/4" narrower on each side (1/2" less in overall width) and 1/4" shorter. This will leave about a 1/4" gap that needs to be filled with mortar. We would need to confirm that the above measurements are the smallest width and height between the stones. We can also make the door so that it is mortared on all 4 sides in which case we would make it 1/4" shorter.

Option #1: Design Specialties Brookfield in Natural Iron with Gray Glass (mortar 3 sides).

Option #2: Design Specialties Brookfield in Natural Iron with Gray Glass (mortar 4 sides - deduct an additional 1/4" from make to height).
Brookfield
Option #3: Design Specialties Brookfield in Natural Iron with Gray Glass outside fit with 1" overlap on all 4 sides. This is not ideal as gaps between the frame and stone will be evident, however it is much easier to install. Add 2" to the opening width and height to get finished frame size.
Stiletto
Option #4: Design Specialties Stiletto in Natural Iron with Gray Glass (mortar 3 sides).

Glass Door Mesh Options

If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.

We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
