Forged Iron Fireplace Doors for Stacked Stone Fireplace - Project #10362

Customer Comments: Hi, I'm looking into installing doors on our basement fireplace and wondering if you have any available options or advice for me. We have another fireplace upstairs directly above the fireplace in the basement that had a new gas insert. Will that be an issue to burn wood below in the basement? I'm attaching pictures also. Thanks for any help you can give.

Our Comments: We have created several examples of doors that will work well with your fireplace. Regarding burning the fire in the basement, it is most likely not issue because it is very rare that two fireplaces actually share the same flue. There are usually two separate flues inside the same chase as you see in figures below. So you will need to confirm that there are in fact two separate flues inside the chimney.

Glass Door Mesh Options

If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.

We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
