Glass Doors for Zero Clearance Fireplace with Stacked Stone Facing - Project #10815

Customer Comments: Hello. The dimensions of the stone facade opening is 35.5" wide at top and 36" at the bottom. The width of the ceramic on the actual fireplace behind the facade is 35.5". The height from the hearth to the facade on top is 23 1/4", with the distance between the metal strips on the top and bottom that the current doors screw into is 25". I'm interested in your steel door products if you think they would work with my fireplace. Thank you.

Our Comments: The steel doors made by Design Specialties are made to overlap the black metal of your fireplace and cannot overlap the facia. In order to use those doors, we would have to fit them inside the opening leaving a 1/4" gap around the door frame, which may not look as finished. The best alternative are doors made by Stone Manufacturing that can overlap the facia. Their doors are actual hand forged products that are at the very high end. We have provided examples of both types of doors.

Stone Manufacturing

These are very high end doors that can overlap the fascia. Doors that overlap cannot be burned with the doors closed but provide a more finished look. The frames shown on these doors are 2" wide and designed to overlap the opening by 5/8" max. We may choose to make the frame 2 1/2" wide if more overlap is needed.

Glass Door Mesh Options

If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.

We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
