Customer Comments: 36.75 high 44.75 wide, stone in front narrows a bit more. Thanks
Our Comments: Glass doors that are exposed to the elements outdoors need to be made of materials that are resistant to rust. Below are examples of each of the following materials used for outdoor fireplaces: Aluminum, stainless steel, solid brass and zinc coated wrought iron. These would be made slightly smaller than the stone opening and the gap would be filled with mortar. Only the doors made by Design Specialties can be burned with the doors closed. The others must be burned open.
Fireplace Opening: 44 3/4" W x 36 3/4" H
Aluminum is the least expensive material. The outer hinges are stainless steel but the bifold hinges are normal steel. For this reason, we normally recommend cabinet doors when installed outdoors. However, due to the size of your fireplace, you must use bifold doors, so the bifold hinges may need to be replaced periodically.
Stainless steel is the most popular choice for outdoors. It can be powder coated in black or some other dark finishes that will hold up well outdoors. The mesh doors or sliding mesh curtains and all of the hardware will be stainless steel.
Solid brass has been used in outdoor applications for centuries. It is most often painted black but can also be made in an unfinished brass that will develop a natural patina over time.
Zinc coated wrought iron is extremely durable and has a more rugged look since it is hand forged. It is also the most expensive.
If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.
We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
