Our Comments: Because your fireplace opening is so small and raised up in the wall, we have provided examples of doors that play with the proportions a bit, either by having wider frames or almost no frame at all. The doors that overlap the opening fit very flat against the fireplace and do not project out like your previous doors.
All fireplace doors that are mass produced and sold at home centers are designed to sit flat on a hearth and do not generally look good on a raised fireplace. We believe you will like any of these much better.
Fireplace Opening: 26" W x 26" H
Aluminum is an excellent material for fireplace doors because it does not rust and can handle high temperatures when treated with powder coated finishes. It is also the most affordable.
Steel doors are more substantial than the less expensive aluminum doors. They are heavy duty and rugged and are more customizable because the frames are laser cut.
These doors are hand crafted by skilled artisans from Solid Brass or Steel, depending on the finish that is desired. Very high end, and very refined. Items made from solid brass come in a wide variety of hand crafted patinas and other finishes. The steel doors shown above cannot be made in these types of brass finishes, which is why we have chosen these doors.
Customer Comments: Hi there, We need new doors/frame on our fireplace as the current one is really rusted and tarnished when we bought the apartment. As you can see the fireplace is in the middle of the brick and we don't have plans to build a hearth anytime soon. Based on the measurements I can't find an "off the shelf" that will fit, so this is our next step! We are looking for something likely black, or maybe black with brass accents - not so much brass like they currently are. We like modern clean, sleek lines - nothing too ornate or busy. The opening of the fireplace box itself is approximately 26x26 inches. It is reasonably flat/consistent. The one qualification, is that in measuring the height, the 26 inch measurement is only good for about 1.5 inches deep into the box; after that depth it's about 25.5 inches tall as part of the box is then lower.
The current doors seem to be attached with brackets at the bottom and then at the top there is a hook on the doors that goes into some large screws with a circle top to catch the hook. There is apparently some insulation on the sides between the brick and the brass, and caulk all the way around on outside. The measurements of the current glass doors are approximately 22.5 inches tall and 25.75 inches wide; the full frame of brass or whatever it is is a bit less than 30.5 inches tall and is 32 inches wide. Thank you!
