Customer Comments: I've attached photo's of my fireplace and opening. I've also attached a simple drawing with measurements and what I would like. My fireplace is under a pavilion and outside. I have a problem with winds and smoke coming out the front of the fireplace on those days, so I want a arched smoke guard and two doors. It can be made to go inside or overlap. Please advise and thanks.
Our Comments: Glass doors will do the best for solving your smoke problem. The glass doors can have mesh backup doors so you can burn the fire with the glass open when there is no breeze. Whether you choose the glass doors with mesh backup doors or just mesh doors, they would be made from stainless steel in a powder coat finish. We can make them with a 5" wide top frame and 2" wide side frames or we can make a rectangular door with an arched top.
Fireplace Opening: 42" W x 29 1/4" to 35 3/4"H
This option uses a stainless steel sheet metal surround that is held in place by an aluminum framed glass door. This is the least expensive option for adding glass doors. Aluminum doors have an outdoor option where the hinges and gate mesh are made from stainless steel. The stainless hinges are only available on twin doors. Bifold hinges are not available in stainless steel and are not recommended for use in outdoor application. If you must have bifold doors, those hinges will need to be replaced periodically (possibly annually).
If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.
We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
