Customer Comments: Glass Doors for Large Red Brick Outdoor Fireplace - Project #11297
Our Comments: We have presented choices using 4 different materials for outdoor fireplaces. Aluminum, Stainless Steel, Solid Brass and Wrought Iron. Each of these is made from hardware designed to handle the elements. Mesh curtains are all stainless steel painted black. The Design Specialties doors are the only ones that can be burned with the doors closed. All of the other brands must be burned with the doors open.
Fireplace Opening: 50" W x 34" H
Aluminum is an excellent material for fireplace doors because it does not rust and can handle high temperatures when treated with powder coated finishes. It is also the most affordable.
Option #1: Design Specialties Brookfield Fireplace Glass Door in Rustic Black with Stainless Steel Outdoor Package. The bifold hinges on this door are not stainless steel and may need to be replaced periodically. Can be burned open or closed.
Steel doors are more substantial than the less expensive aluminum doors. They are heavy duty and rugged and are more customizable because the frames are laser cut.
Option #2: Design Specialties Legend Stainless Steel Outdoor Fireplace Glass Door in Rustic Black. Can be burned open or closed.
Option #3: Hearth Creations Stainless Steel Outdoor Fireplace Door in Brushed Stainless Finish. Must be burned with doors open.
These doors are made from a special zinc coated wrought iron that is extremely curable outdoors. We have featured this particular door in a rust finish, which tends to really hide the weathering.
Option #4: Stone Manufacturing WI-DF1G Zinc Coated Wrought Iron Outdoor Fireplace Door in Rust. Must be burned with doors open.
These doors are hand crafted by skilled artisans from Solid Brass. Solid brass is the must durable of all outdoor materials. Unlike any other brand, all of the components including the frame, hinges, handles and damper assembly are made from solid brass for maximum durability outdoors.
Option #5: Stone Manufacturing Solid Brass Fireplace Door Painted Black. This is the most durable outdoor material. Must be burned with doors open.
If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.
We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
