Customer Comments: Hi, Attaching the pictures of our fireplace. Its marble overlaps. We would like the door that has the least overlap. We are looking at black or antique black. Also the firebox base to lintel is 26 3/4. Hearth is raised compared to forebox base. Ideally we would like a inside fit if possible or else slight overlap to the stone.
Our Comments: Here are some great options in various price ranges. The "Minimal" and "Hybrid" doors is quite uniquie as they have no frame on the sides and fit completely inside the opening. The minimal door has 3/8" glass, which is quite spectacular.
Fireplace Opening: 30 1/8" W x 25 1/16" H
Aluminum is an excellent material for fireplace doors because it does not rust and can handle high temperatures when treated with powder coated finishes. It is also the most affordable. These are overlap fitting doors.
Option #1: Hearth Creations Overlap Fitting Profile 4 Cabinet Fireplace Door in Matte Black with Clear Glass.
Option #2: Design Specialties Overlap Fitting Brookfield Bifold Fireplace Glass Door in Rustic Black with Clear Glass.
Steel doors are more substantial than the less expensive aluminum doors. They are heavy duty and rugged and are more customizable because the frames are laser cut.
Option #3: Design Specialties MET Overlap Fitting Cabinet Fireplace Door with Hidden Textured Black Outer Frame and Antique Iron Doors.
These doors are hand crafted by skilled artisans and have a very minimalist appearance. Both doors have no frames on the sides. They are built using an angle iron at the top and bottom that holds the door hardware. The Minimal-1 has 3/8" thick glass and no hardware at the bottom, so it has an exceptional look about it.
Option #4: Stone Manufacturing Minimal-1 Fireplace Twin Inside Fitting Glass Door with Black Angle Iron Frame and Satin Nickel Door Hardware. Features 3/8" thick glass. Can also be made with all black hardware.
Option #5: Stone Manufacturing HYBRID-1 Cabinet Fireplace Glass Door in Antique Pewter with Dark Graylite-14 Glass. Can also be made in all black with clear glass.
If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.
We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
Tempered vs Ceramic Glass: Tempered glass can handle sustained temperatures up to about 450F without breaking from heat and should be at least 8" from the flames. Ceramic glass can handle sustained temperatures up to about 1450F and be in direct contact with the flames. If you wish to burn fires with the doors closed, I highly recommend upgrading to ceramic glass. Ceramic glass is $800-$2000 more than tempered glass depending on the manufacturer.
Not all doors are available with all of these glass options.
