Glass Doors for See-Thru Fireplace Remodel - Project #11338

Customer Comments: We have a double sided fireplace that we’d like to get fireplace doors/coverings for. On the side of the family room, we need the doors to open so we can access the gas turn on and shut off to light the fire. On the dining room side it doesn’t need to open and can be a solid piece, or it can open. We're open to either option. We'd like the style to be the same on both sides. We will be covering the entire fireplace with stone/rock (see example below) after the doors are installed. Thank you.

Our Comments: As we discussed via email, the doors must remain open on both sides when gas logs are burning. We have included the original "Pocket Fireplace Doors" you requested along with some others that are less expensive. We did our best to create a stone face somewhat similar to the example you provided to at least provide some context. However, the doors will likely be more recessed then they appear in the mockups if you install them before the stone is applied. Hope this helps.

Telescoping Fireplace Pocket Doors

Pocket fireplace doors are unique because the glass is completely hidden when it is open as it slides away behind the stone. These types of doors are perfect for new construction or applications like this where the fireplace is being covered with a new facing material. These are also available as twin doors instead of telescoping doors, but the twin door models require more space on the sides than this fireplace presents, so telescoping doors with 4 panes are used. These are in the $5,000 per door price range, so we have already decided this is beyond the budget, but wanted to included them in the project anyways since others may be viewing this for ideas.

Affordable Aluminum Doors

Aluminum is an excellent material for fireplace doors because it does not rust and can handle high temperatures when treated with powder coated finishes. It is also the most affordable.

Stiletto
Stiletto Fireplace Door Option #2: Design Specialties Stiletto Fireplace Glass Door in Rustic Black. This is the narrowest framed aluminum door.

Medium Range Steel Doors

Steel doors are more substantial than the less expensive aluminum doors. They are heavy duty and rugged and are more customizable because the frames are laser cut.

Legend Elite
Legend Elite Fireplace Door Option #3: Design Specialties Legend Elite Fireplace Glass Door in Forged Iron. This door has an angle iron frame behind the glass instead of a wider frame around it. The angle iron makes it an excellent choice for mortaring around the door.

High End Hand Crafted Wrought Iron/Steel Doors

Hand crafted doors take on a more rugged natural look for those who appreciate craftsmanship tasteful details.

Iron Age 2
Iron Age 2 Fireplace Door Option #4: Hearth Creations Iron Age 2 Fireplace Glass Door with Hammered Texture in Matte Black. Shown with stone overlapping the outer frame.

High End Hand Crafted Solid Brass

These doors are hand crafted by skilled artisans from Solid Brass or Steel, depending on the finish that is desired. Very high end, and very refined. Items made from solid brass come in a wide variety of hand crafted patinas and other finishes. Satin Nickel finishes done on solid brass are the finest quality and will not rust like plated steel.

Hybrid-2
Hybrid 2 Fireplace Door Option #5: Stone Manufacturing HYBRID-2 Bifold Fireplace Glass Door in Matte Black. This door has no frame on the sides, just an angle iron on the top and bottom creating the largest view of the fireplace.
Sliding Door
Solid Brass Fireplace Door Option #6: Stone Manufacturing SD Sliding Fireplace Door in Hand Hammered Rustic Swedish. This door has 2 fixed panes of glass on the right and left sides and 2 sliding panes in the center. Unlike the pocket doors below, the doors only open half way. The main advantage is they do not stick out into the room, which is great for this fireplace since there is no hearth and people will be walking close to the fireplace.
