Customer Comments: We have a double sided fireplace that we’d like to get fireplace doors/coverings for. On the side of the family room, we need the doors to open so we can access the gas turn on and shut off to light the fire. On the dining room side it doesn’t need to open and can be a solid piece, or it can open. We're open to either option. We'd like the style to be the same on both sides. We will be covering the entire fireplace with stone/rock (see example below) after the doors are installed. Thank you.
Our Comments: As we discussed via email, the doors must remain open on both sides when gas logs are burning. We have included the original "Pocket Fireplace Doors" you requested along with some others that are less expensive. We did our best to create a stone face somewhat similar to the example you provided to at least provide some context. However, the doors will likely be more recessed then they appear in the mockups if you install them before the stone is applied. Hope this helps.
Fireplace Opening: 46" W x 38" H
Pocket fireplace doors are unique because the glass is completely hidden when it is open as it slides away behind the stone. These types of doors are perfect for new construction or applications like this where the fireplace is being covered with a new facing material. These are also available as twin doors instead of telescoping doors, but the twin door models require more space on the sides than this fireplace presents, so telescoping doors with 4 panes are used. These are in the $5,000 per door price range, so we have already decided this is beyond the budget, but wanted to included them in the project anyways since others may be viewing this for ideas.
Aluminum is an excellent material for fireplace doors because it does not rust and can handle high temperatures when treated with powder coated finishes. It is also the most affordable.
Steel doors are more substantial than the less expensive aluminum doors. They are heavy duty and rugged and are more customizable because the frames are laser cut.
Hand crafted doors take on a more rugged natural look for those who appreciate craftsmanship tasteful details.
These doors are hand crafted by skilled artisans from Solid Brass or Steel, depending on the finish that is desired. Very high end, and very refined. Items made from solid brass come in a wide variety of hand crafted patinas and other finishes. Satin Nickel finishes done on solid brass are the finest quality and will not rust like plated steel.
If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.
We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
