Customer Comments: Hello! I'm interested in getting a quote for a custom fireplace screen. I've attached three photos, as you request on your website. The dimensions of the opening are 18"H x 36 1/4"W. The marble lip is 1 3/8" thick. I'm looking for a simple matte black metal-framed screen that inserts directly into the opening of the fireplace. No stand. Doesn't need to be fancy: it's a modern city apartment with black iron railings and no ornamentation. I want the screen to rest flush with the marble. I'm thinking all I need is some metal clips on the inside, or perhaps along the edges, that applies a little force against the marble stone lip to keep the screen in place. The screen needs to be easily removable to access the fireplace from time to time, so I do need some way to grab the screen and pull it out. What do you think? Thanks!
Our Comments: Although we do not have a clip mount type of screen, we can devise something that uses the latching mechanism we use with some of our high end fireplace doors. Below are some mockups that should clarify how this might work.
Fireplace Opening: 36 1/4" W x 18" H
We would provide 4 ball bearing type of latches that you would attach inside the fireplace. The screen would have pins on the back. The trick to making this work is the precision in which you attach the latches to the fireplace. The measurements need to be accurate within 1/16" when orderig this so the latches will line up properly. We can attach the latches to an angle iron so they are properaly spaced, or you can attach them manually.
If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.
We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
