Our Comments: In this case, there is a damper lever just under the lintel that must be accommodated. To do this, we must make the door fit inside the opening under the lintle and cut a notch in the frame for the lever. For a tighter seal, the back of the frame should rest against the bracket holding the lever. This will leave a portion of the firebrick showing at the bottom, which we can cover with a flange. We would make the door about 1/4" smaller on each side and the gaps will need to be filled with mortar as illustrated.
Fireplace Opening: 30" W x 30" H
Steel doors are more substantial than the less expensive aluminum doors. They are heavy duty and rugged and are more customizable because the frames are laser cut.
Hand crafted doors take on a more rugged natural look for those who appreciate craftsmanship tasteful details.
