Glass Doors for Prefab Fireplace with Marble Tiles - Project #11400

Customer Comments: Hello, I would like a glass door. Please send me what designs you have and what the price is.

Our Comments: Due to the way the marble has been installed around your prefabricated fireplace, the options for glass doors that can be installed are limited. In order to prevent the fireplace from overheating, gaps to allow air to flow into the fireplace must be provided. The mockups below represent 3 different categories of doors that can be made this way.

Fireplace Opening: 42" W x 20 1/2" H

Affordable Aluminum Doors

This is the least expensive option. The aluminum door below will have wider gaps between the outer glass panes and the aluminum frame on the sides. There are air slots built-in to the inside of the frame to allow proper airflow into the fireplace.

Medium Range Steel Doors

Steel doors are more heavy duty and expensive than aluminum. These doors have a 2" wide frame with 1/4" spacers on the back to allow airflow into the fireplace. The frame is made from 3/16" thick solid steel.

Flat Steel

High End Sliding Doors

Sliding doors are great for fireplaces like this where the opening is raised above the ground. 2 fixed panes of glass on the right and left sides and 2 sliding panes in the center so they do not stick out when open. This door has s 2" wide frame with 1/4" spacers on the back for airflow. Excellent for gas logs, but not recommended for wood burning.

Glass Door Mesh Options

If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.

We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
