Customer Comments: The current cover does not fit our fireplace at all. It looks like it does but all the heat and smoke escaping from the top of the cover has discolored the paint. I would like a black cover prefer non glass and more vintage looking as house was built in 1971. I want screens on the inside as i have kids and cats. I have attached a picture of the issue of it not fitting. Its literally covering the opening on the top at the brick line. Sides seem to cover fine. Current cover measurements are 46 wide (seems to be a good fit) and 33 tall ( does not seem to fit at all to short-heat and smoke escaping).
Our Comments: The examples below can be made with a decorative doors that open with mesh backup doors that can remain closed so you can have a great view of the fire. Or, we can make the doors themselves with wire mesh and they would just remain closed when buring a fire. We have many patterns to choose from, but we will start here to see if this is close to what you like.
Fireplace Opening: 46" W x 33" H (Existing Door Dimensions)
These doors are made from 3/16" thick solid steel with custom laser cut patterns.
Option #: Hearth Creations Flat Steel Fireplace Mesh Cabinet Doors with Custom Scroll Pattern.
Option #: Hearth Creations Flat Steel Fireplace Mesh Bifold Doors with Custom DXF-36 Laser Cut Scroll Pattern. The bifold doors are strictly decorative with mesh doors behind them. You can open the pattern doors while leaving the mesh doors closed for a better view of the fire, or burn the fire with the pattern doors closed for a unique ambiance.
If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.
We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
Tempered vs Ceramic Glass: Tempered glass can handle sustained temperatures up to about 450F without breaking from heat and should be at least 8" from the flames. Ceramic glass can handle sustained temperatures up to about 1450F and be in direct contact with the flames. If you wish to burn fires with the doors closed, I highly recommend upgrading to ceramic glass. Ceramic glass is $800-$2000 more than tempered glass depending on the manufacturer.
Not all doors are available with all of these glass options.

Photo #2: With your back to the fireplace, take a picture looking straight out into the room so we can see the decor directly in front of the fireplace.
