Customer Comments: Hi, My project is very similar to Fireplace #10518 on your website: 2 sided outdoor fireplace - one side facing a patio, one side facing porch. We are looking for glass doors for one side (patio side?). The biggest challenge we have is wind blowing the ash around the deck after the fire is out (the fireplace has a screened in porch on one side and a stone pool deck on the other.
Our Comments: Below are mockups of doors made from aluminum and from stainless steel. The aluminum doors can be made with stainless steel hardware except for the bifold hinges, which may need to be replaced periodically. We recommend a flat black finish for these doors for the best durability. As we discussed via email, glass doors need to be added to both sides on see thru fireplaces. Fireplace Opening: 48" W x 31 1/4" H
Aluminum is an excellent material for fireplace doors because it does not rust and can handle high temperatures when treated with powder coated finishes. It is also the most affordable.
These doors are made from laser cut 304 stainless steel for extended durability. The doors made by Hearth Creations incorporate ceramic glass which can handle a higher degree of thermal shock, which is great for outdoors when you light a fire in cold weather. Due to the physical properties of ceramic glass, the edges cannot be polished smooth so each pane must be fully framed.
These options are designed to block the fireplace on one side using solid metal instead of glass. These can be made from normal steel or stainless steel, both painted black.
If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.
We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
