Gold Screen Ideas for Large Stone Fireplace - Project #11442

Customer Comments: Either glass or mesh with gold trim/feet. I'd love to know the pros and cons of each type. Probably a straight version and not curved.

Our Comments: As per our email discussion, we have ruled out free standing glass screens. Here are some great looking modern fireplace treatments with gold. Notice the addition of the "Windswept Tree" gas burning sculpture in some of the mockups. This is an exclusive offering that is somewhat whimsical, but works well with your modern art.

Modern Sliding Glass Doors

The outer panes of glass are fixed while the inner panes slide left and right to open. This version features an angle iron frame on edge so only a small edge of the frame is visible. The gap between the rough edge of the stone and the frame would need to be filled with mortar to match the rest of the fireplace.

Glass Door Mesh Options

If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.

We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
