Customer Comments: Hello. We have been shopping for fireplace doors at Woodland Direct. It seems prudent for us to compare the cost using comparable materials so we are contacting you for an estimate. From you selection of products those most similar to what we have found are Carolina and Legend, option. Trackless bi-fold in bronze finish. We think ZC Legend may be needed as we have “corners" that are bullnose. I have attached photos of our fireplace. Also, a diagram with the critical dimensions. Our fireplace is a Rumford style. Our home is constructed of rammed-earth, which includes the fireplace and hearth.
Our Comments: The Legend ZC door is not appropriate for a wood burning fireplace. ZC stands for zero clearance, which is a prefabricated metal fireplace framed into the house with 2x4 construction. The standard Legend is what you would want if you went this route with a wider frame. The widest frame the Carolina can be made with is 2 1/2" and the frame has a 2" recessed depth, so the Carolina may not be appropriate. Here are some great options for you to consider for your Southwest Pueblo style fireplace.
Fireplace Opening: 39" W x 32 7/8" H
The Legend from Design Specialties is laser cut and can have the frame made to whatever dimension you want. There is a 1 1/2" deep subframe, so a wider frame as you have specified will be necessary in order to clear the curved opening.
Option #1: Design Specialties Legend Fireplace Glass Door in Classic Bronze with 5" wide frame on top and sides.
Option #2: Design Specialties Legend Fireplace Glass Door in Classic Bronze with 5" wide frame on top and sides and rounded upper corners. Shown with rounded hearth flange.
Hearth Creation doors are also laser cut and can have custom frame widths. The main difference is the subframe is only 3/4" deep, so you do not need a very wide frame to clear the curve. a 2" frame should do the trick and leave you with a better look.
Option #3: Hearth Creations Iron Age 2 with Aged Iron Hammered Texture and Rustic Window Pane in Burnished Bronze. Shown as near inside fit on sides and inside fit at top.
Option #5: Hearth Creations Iron Age 3 with Flat Hammered Texture with Scroll Doors in Oil Rubbed Bronze.
Option #7: Hearth Creations Iron Age 6 with Wrought Iron Details and Arched Doors in Aspire Rust. Shown with rounded hearth flange.
If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.
We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
