Our Comments: Here are some examples of how you can treat this unsual arch fireplace that has a stepped shelf inside.

Mesh curtains can be added with an arched top plate fitting flush with the opening where the mesh is cut to fit the step, or mounted outside the opening where the mesh hangs over the entire fireplace. Many decorative options and finishes are available for the arch plate.
Option #1: Stone Manufacturing C92 Curtain Screen with Plain Arched Top Plate in Flat Black. Screen is made to the shape of the opening hanging over the step.
Option #2: Stone Manufacturing C92 Curtain Screen with Wrought Iron Arched Top Plate and Decorative Scrollwork in Natural Iron with Satin Nickel Fleur Del Lis. The screen mounts outside the fireplace with ample room for the mesh to hang outside the fireplace. Shown with a matching bottom bar.

We can make glass doors in a variety of styles and finishes to fit the shape of the opening. The left side can be a fixed glass pane or operable door.
Option #7: Design Specialties Legend Arched Fireplace Glass Door in Rustic Black.
If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.
