Customer Comments: I am interested in replacing my fireplace doors with a new iron door. Our style is vey simple and our cabinets are all craftsmen style. We don't like all the squirly designs. Need some ideas. The measurements of my opening are 43 inches wide by 23 inches tall.
Our Comments: If you wish to burn a fire with the glass doors closed, you will need doors that fit inside the stone and mount directly to the metal fireplace. Those doors will shrink the opening and viewing area. If you are okay with burning with the glass doors open, more elegant craftsman style doors can be mounted overlapping the stacked stone using 1/4" on the back side of the frame to allow proper airflow into the fireplace.
Fireplace Opening: 43" W x 23" H
These doors are made by Design Specialties and can be burned with the doors closed on a ZC fireplace. They are designed with gaps between the outer frame and door frames that allow air to flow into the fireplace when the doors are closed to help prevent overheating of the fireplace. They must be mounted inside directly to the metal fireplace and cannot overlap the stone.
These are very high end Craftsman style doors made to overlap the stone, which provides a larger viewing area and more finished look. Doors like these must be open during the main burn of the fire, although they can be closed for a few minutes to help get the fire started as well as when the fire starts to die out. They are each specially designed to allow air to flow into the fireplace to prevent overheating either with 1/4" spacers on the back of the frame or wider gaps between the glass.
If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.
We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.

Please remove all objects from in front of the fireplace opening before you take your pictures (existing screen, plants or anything else). If you have an existing glass door, take pictures with the doors open and closed.
Once I recieve your pictures, I will create several mockups and post them to a project page and send you a link to view and them with others for their input. I will follow up with you to discus your project, quote prices and help you choose the treatment that suits you best.
