Screens for large arched outdoor fireplace - Project #11547

Our Comments: In order to avoid serious issues with rust and premature deterioration, it is important that screens and accessories for outdoor fireplaces be made from materials designed to resist corrosion. The best materials for this purpose are: Stainless Steel, Solid Bras and Zinc Coated Wrought Iron. We have included examples of each of these below.

Fireplace Opening: 48" W x 38" H (sides) x 40" H (center)

Curtain Screens

Mesh curtain screens require a top bar that has a curtain rod attached to the back of it. The bar can be made to overlap the arched opening or can be installed up behind the arch where it is hidden. The curtain rod is 1" behind the back side of the bar, so when the hidden bar is installed behind the arch, the mesh will hang 1" behind the back side of the opening, which reduces the usable space inside the fireplace.

Glass Door Mesh Options

If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.

We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
