Customer Comments: Opening measurements are 46.5 width and 33.5 height. This is a pretty old place, and so these dimensions are the smallest, as this is not square. There is enough clearance top and bottom (obviously) and there is on the short side, 33 inches of clearance for the sliding doors to completely clear the opening. This is a 2 hundred year old federalist style house. This fireplace is woods burning and has a 40 foot chimney. The draw is not great and the down drafts can push a suspended quilt out from the opening about 4 inches on a windy day, even with the flu closed. I love the idea of having a top AND bottom rail. I am thinking wrought iron look, grey glass. Thanks for taking my call and for being so kind.
Our Comments: Here are the mockups you requested.
Fireplace Opening: 46 1/2" W x 33 1/2" H
Steel doors are more substantial than the less expensive aluminum doors. They are heavy duty and rugged and are more customizable because the frames are laser cut.
Hand crafted doors take on a more rugged natural look for those who appreciate craftsmanship tasteful details. Due to the size of the fireplace, the sliding doors require two individual glass panes on each side (total of 4 panes).
If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.
We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
