Screens for Large Stacked Stone Fireplace - Project #11566

Customer Comments: Our fireplace is 84 inches wide at the front narrowing to 61 inches wide at the rear. Our fireplace has no hearth and opens onto a fireproof floor. Total depth from front of fireplace to rear of fireplace is 32 inches but we would like for our grate to fit within 22 inches of that depth if possible. We would like a custom fireplace screen with five or six panels and this screen will sit in first 10 inches of the firebox. We would like your suggestions. The height of the fireplace opening is 51 1/2 to 52 inches depending on how low the stone hangs. Look forward to discussing options with you.

Our Comments: We can make a large folding screen to fit your fireplace, but it will be very heavy and inconvenient to move around when tending the fire. For fireplaces this large, we recommend either sliding mesh curtains or bifolding mesh doors that are attached to the fireplace. Here are some examples to consider.

Fireplace Opening: 84" W x 51 1/2" H

Glass Door Mesh Options

If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.

We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
