Wire Mesh Doors for Large Stone Fireplace - Project #11588

Customer Comments: The measurements are 46" X 46" and I would like the Carolina with doors in black (free standint)! Thanks

Our Comments: The Carolina free standing screen doors have a size limit of 40" x 30". Anything over that must have a fixed panel for both width and height as shown in the mockup below. For fireplaces this large, you are going to need a screen that attaches to the opening, otherwise, it will be very unstable when the doors are opened. Free standing screens this large will always feel a bit "Rickety" when you open the doors even when they are attached. We recommend actual doors that attach to the fireplace without feet for a much more solid feel.

Fireplace Opening: 46" W x 46" H

Free Standing Screen Doors

Due to the large size, these screens will be completely unstable when you open the doors, so you will need to attach them to the fireplace. Even then, they will have somewhat of a "Rickety" feel to them, but they will be functional. The Carolina door cannot be attached, but will operate due to the limited size doors.

Attached Screen Doors

These doors do not have feet and are attached to the fireplace for much more solid and stable operation. They will not feel "Rickety" when you open and close the doors.

Glass Door Mesh Options

If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.

We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
