Customer Comments: Width is 51 inches and height is 38 inches. We have kids so we need something sturdy that will not fall over easily. We have been looking for a screen to keep our toddler out of it but haven't been able to find one that is large enough for the opening. Thank you!
Our Comments: Glass doors are the most popular choice for keeping children and pets out of the fireplace. The also have the benefit of eliminating drafts from the chimney. They can be made with keyed locks or latches to keep children from opening them. Free standing screen doors and single panel screens are also popular. Here are some examples.
Fireplace Opening: 51" W x 38" H
Aluminum is an excellent material for fireplace doors because it does not rust and can handle high temperatures when treated with powder coated finishes. It is also the most affordable.
Hand crafted doors take on a more rugged natural look for those who appreciate craftsmanship tasteful details.
Free standing screen doors like these can be bolted to the fireplace so they cannot be tipped over.
Stone Manufacturing offers a child safety latch for their free standing single panel screens to prevent toddlers from pulling the screen over. It also helps keep pets out of the fireplace. Because it has springs, an adult can pull it away to unhook the latch when the screen needs to be moved.
If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.
We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
