Customer Comments: I have included the photo of the screen I would like to more or less copy. Thank you
Our Comments: This fireplace is a little more formal than the one in your example, so we recommend a more formal screen made from solid brass instead of black steel. Here are some examples shown with and without your fender and tools so you can see the feet on the screens.
Fireplace Opening: 40" W x 40" H
We need to decide whether the screen will set inside the mantel legs our outside. There are rear stabilizers on the back of the screen that are 3" to 4" long and allow it to stand on it's own. It appears that the fireplace floor may be about 1/2" taller than the hearth outside the fireplace. This could cause an issue with the rear feet if you want the screen to fit inside the mantel legs. So it is important to determine if the firebox floor is in fact raised. We can also make the screen stand outside the mantel and make it the same size is the outer trim around the opening. We do not have that dimension shown in the measuring diagram, but are calling for it in the measurements.
Measurements
W1: Width between mantel legs at bottom
W2: Outer width of grate legs. We just need to make sure the rear feet on the screen do not line up directly with those feet.
H: Height from hearth to bottom of mantel opening.
D: Depth of mantel foot at base.
These dimensions are needed if we are making the screen fit outside the mantel opening:
Width of Trim: Overall width of the trim around the fireplace opening.
Height of Trim: Overall height of the trim around the fireplace opening.
If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.
We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
