Glass Doors and Steel Mantel for Fireplace Remodel - Project #11618

Customer Comments: Our fire place was once a wood burning unit we converted to natural gas logs. We are changing external look , the surround , mantel etc. The fireplace was built by FMI they are no longer in business. Hence why we are reaching out to Hansen for a quote to replace the screen and doors, with a different look. Thank you.

Subsequent Comments: We'd like to move towards something that fits in a lighter theme perhaps the sliver tone can do that with a different color surround? Also we'll be changing the floor divider piece to match the surround.

Our Comments: Here are two mockups to help get you started in the right direction. The first mockup shows a steel mantel surround with built-in louvers and glass door. This is a modern look that you may not have every seen elsewhere, but it eliminates the need for a stone or tile facing around the fireplace. The second option shows a more commone stone or tile facing around the opening with a floating mantel shelf above and a glass door with built-in louvers to cover all the black metal. The options for both types of treatments are quite extensive, so we will start here to see which way you might want to go.

Glass Door Mesh Options

If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.

We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
