Customer Comments: Looking for a quote on custom fireplace screens. Would like a metal screen with or without doors that would sit just outside the fireplace opening. The brick is painted, original color underneath is red brick. It's semi opaque whitish grey. We are planning to build a live edge mantle this year that will most likely be a dark natural wood color. Biggest thing is we have a kitten that needs to be kept out of the fireplace (for obvious reasons), but we still would like to see the fire and for the heat to escape through the screen and warm the room. Examples of screens we like are folding style, but we can consider a door style option.
Our Comments: It has been our experience over the years that 3 fold screens are not the best prevention for keeping cats out of the fireplace. They have been known to jump over them to get into the fireplace. We have presented several other designs that we believe will have a better chance of keeping your cat out of the fireplace including single panel screens, free standing screen doors and attached screen doors.
Fireplace Opening: 47" W x 29" H (center) x 23" H (sides)
Folding screens are not the best way to keep cats out of the fireplace as they can potentially jump over them.
Free standing screen doors to a great job of keeping cats out of the fireplace. The only downside is you must open them to get an unobstructed view of the fire when it is burning.
Single panel screens are a great way to keep cats out of the fireplace while providing an excellent view of the fire.
Doors that are attached to the fireplace will provide 100% prevention from your cat getting into the fireplace. They also can be made with "fake" outer doors and a single inner mesh door. This allows you to have a decorative pattern on the outer door for when the fire is off. When the fire is on, you can open the outer doors and leave the inner mesh door closed for an unobstructed view of the fire. The outer doors can also have glass.
These are the examples that you provided
If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.
We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
