Custom Screens for Wide Gothic Fireplace - Project #11672

Customer Comments: Hi Erick, I'm copying my husband Mike who you'll be speaking with. Here's 3 pics of our 120 year old fireplace. (the top of the fireplace looks curved however no fear as there is a straight bar under it. FYI at first blush the fireplace on your site that looks the most like what we envision is: Stone Manufacturing WI-C92-F92 I-Beam Track and Roller System with Wrought Iron Top and Bottom Bar with Mesh Curtains in Oil Rubbed Steel. Shown with 39" Custom Wrought Iron Grate and 27" Tall WI-AN17 Custom Andirons.

We do want the bottom bar for pets protection (as they always climb in this fireplace which we haven't used ever). Thanks in advance and look forward to hearing.

Our Comments: We have created some mockups for you to consider, including some options that have never been made before, designed specifically for your fireplace.

Curtain Screens

These can be made from wrought iron or steel. The wrought iron pieces are hand forged by a master blacksmith and will give you an authentic "Slag" texture that best compliments the period design of the fireplace.

I-Beam Track with Rollers

I-Beam Track and rollers
Solid Brass Fireplace Screen The I-Beam track with rollers makes it possible to have a bar and mesh over 48" wide that does not sag. It also slides more easily with larger fireplaces.

Pet Deterrent Channel

Pet Deterrent Channel

The Pet Deterrent Channel illustrated above helps prevent pets and small children from pushing the mesh inward and getting into the fireplace. This can be added to the F92 bottom bar, which also prevents logs from rolling out into the fireplace. When installing a bar and mesh, it is always a great idea to add the matching F92 bottom bar with the Pet Deterrent Channel.

Glass Door Mesh Options

If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.

We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
