Classic Free Standing Fireplace Screen Door for Carved Marble Mantel - Project #11673
Customer Comments:
I am looking for screen options for this fireplace. I am looking for mesh design not glass. And would like it to have doors so I can access the firewood.
Our Comments: Free standing screens this size will be top heavy and unstable when the doors are open. We recommend adding rear brackets with wing nuts to prevent the screen from falling over. Here are some ideas made from solid brass to get started.

Rear Feet with Brackets
Single Panel Screen

Rear Feet with Brackets: The brackets are bolted to the floor inside the fireplace. The rear feet slip under the brackets and tightened down with wing nuts. This will prevent the screen from falling over when it is open and make it easy to remove the screen when desired. The screen will flex a little with these feet, but will be safe to open and close. For even more stability, we can add magnets at the top that will stick to the smoke guard, as long as it is made from steel or some other magnetic material.

Glass Door Mesh Options
If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.
We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
