Customer Comments: Hello. Looking at getting a fireplace door. Surround/Mantel was built after we realized the top header of the fireplace opening was damaged so the damper rod and damper opening is showing. You will see at the top of the opening in the last picture the broken bricks. Looking for a door that has a high header bar to hide the damper rod. Or another option is to have a minimalist frame with just glass doors w/ no designs on the doors. Since the doors would be covering the damper rod it might not be a big deal. Something like Project 11234. We are not sure! But definitely want the doors black and minimal design. Thanks!
Our Comments: Here are some ideas that solve your problem. The first mockup shows a door with a wide top frame. The other mockups show doors with a smoke guard attached to the back side of the subframe, which is the ideal solution, particularly if you use gray tinted glass and repaint the entire fireplace interior black. The smoke guard will be almost invisible with the doors are closed. We also included some modern gas burning sculptures to modernize the look instead of the more rustic ceramic logs.
Fireplace Opening: 40 1/2" W x 35 11/16" H
Steel doors are more substantial than the less expensive aluminum doors. They are heavy duty and rugged and are more customizable because the frames are laser cut.
The EDGE-2 sliding doors are very minimal. The frame is an angle iron where the front edge is around the glass and the back of the angle is behind the glass. The two outer panes are fixed while the inner panes slide left and right to open and close. A smoke guard can be added to the back of the angle frame and special Graylite-14 Dark Gray Glass can be used to conceal everything inside.
If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.
We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
