Our Comments: We will need to communicate further regarding your needs as they are somewhat unclear. To get going, here are a couple mockups showing air sealed doors in cabinet and bifold configurations. These are gasketed, but would not consider 100% air-tight as no doors are actually completely air-tight, but they do seal very well. We do not recommend the cabinet doors for a fireplace this large because ceramic glass is somewhat fragile and pieces that large could break if they are bumped too hard from a log rolling off the grate or some ither impact. See Hearth Creations Finish & Handle Options Here (choose from steel finishes).
Fireplace Opening: 48" W x 32 1/4" H
Thse doors have gaskets between the doors and the outer frame with vertical bars between the glass to provide a better seal. These doors provide a much better seal than typical fireplace doors and are desgiend to exceed the requirements of the Home Energy Rating System (HERS) for Green Homes. If you plan on burning with the doors closed, you will need pyro ceramic glass. For fireplaces exceeding 42" in width, we highly recommend bifold doors when using pyro ceramic glass as it is very fragile and less likely to break from impact when the individual panes are smaller.
These are the least expensive custom made doors. They provide a clearview of the fire with tempered glass that can be burned with the doors closed, yet still have a lifetime warranty on the glass. View Design Specialties Finish Options Here.
These doors are made from solid laser cut steel. They are more heavy duty and rugged than the aluminum doors. They also provide a clearview of the fire with tempered glass that can be burned with the doors closed, yet still have a lifetime warranty on the glass. View Design Specialties Finish Options Here.
If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.
We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
