Customer Comments: We are in the process of remodeling one of our living rooms. It has a working natural gas fireplace. We would like to replace the old fireplace screen and glass doors. I'm including two photos of how the existing fireplace looks now, and one photo of the old, gold-trimmed cover, which we DO NOT LIKE! We want a cover with a black frame and glass doors; a screen is not necessary, but could be used if incorporated into the cover.
The "old cover" is 44-13/16" wide x 41" tall. The fireplace area to be covered is 41-7/8" wide x 41" tall.
It will have rock installed soon, but we need to cover built and installed before we put the rock in place. We prefer "no frills" built into the trim of the cover, and a matte black finish in your design options, please! Thank you!
Our Comments: You cannot cover the vents on the fireplace, so the original brass glass door was not safe for your fireplace. Not only do the vents circulate heat, more importantly, they allow cool air to circulate around the hollow portion of the fireplace casing to prevent it from overheating and catching the framing members in the wall on fire. So below are doors designed specifically for heat circulating fireplaces like yours.
Fireplace Opening: Not Specified
The least expensive way to treat this type of fireplace is with an aluminum door that fits inside the fireplace opening. You would then need to clean up and paint the exposed louvered portion of the fireplace.
We can have steel doors made with louvers that are laser cut into the frame. There are many different louver patterns to choose from. We chose a simple slotted pattern below as well as an option to hide the louvers with vent covers that stand off 1" from the frame with small posts.
If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.
We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
