Custom Fireplace Glass Doors for Corner "L" Shaped Fireplace - Project #20050

Customer Comments: We are remodelling a mid century modern house. We are installing a gas log set in the main living room fireplace and need a new two sided glass enclosure, probably with a black frame. The brick will be updated with a new facing. Thanks.

Our Comments: Here are some examples of doors that can be made to fit your fireplace. Keep in mind that the doors must be open on the front side when the gas logs are burning.

Fireplace Opening: 48" W x 24" W x ?"" H

Affordable Aluminum Doors

Aluminum is the most economical material for fireplace doors. These are pieced together from aluminum extrusions, so there will be seems at the corners. Corner aluminum doors have a glass to glass corner for an open view of the fireplace. The corner post will be in view.

Medium Range Flat Steel

This door is made from 3/16" thick solid steel. Steel doors do not have an open corner, but they will block the view of the post.

High End Sliding Doors

This door is made from solid brass with a glass to glass corner. The left side is a fixed glass pane. On the right side, the outer panes are fixed and the inner panes slide left and right to open and close. This is ideal for gas logs on a corner fireplace because the doors do not look odd when they are opened.

Glass Door Mesh Options

If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.

We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
