Custom Fireplace Glass Doors - Project #20079

Customer Comments: Hi Greg, I am looking to install a fireplace door. Can you please give me a quote on how much this will cost?

Our Comments: This is a zero clearance prefabricated metal fireplace that is framed into your home with 2x4 construction. There are vents in the fireplace that allow air to cool the fireplace to prevent it from overheating the framing, so they cannot be covered by the door frame (See Fig. 1 near bottom of page). Louvers must be built into the frame to allow air to flow into the vents. Here are some examples of doors constructed in this manner. All of these are available in a Variety of Finishes, including matte black.

Fireplace Retrim Doors

All of these doors have vents designed to allow free airflow in and out of the fireplace when the doors are open or closed. Fires must be burned with the doors open except when the fire is dying out, at which time you can close the doors for safety. Because the vents must remain open, the doors will not seal tightly.

Glass Door Mesh Options

If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.

We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
