Custom Screens for Large Stone Corner Firelace - Project #20098

Customer Comments: Hi Greg, Thanks for speaking to me today. Attached are pics of my fireplace.

Please note:

1). Front L bar slightly off level, side is level.
2). Rocks protrude to edge of L bar and overlap above it.
3). Proposed screen can be removable 1 piece, 2 piece or 3 piece.
4). In your opinion, can the added firebricks and facia rocks (#4 on drawing) be removed without destabilizing the L bar. The rocks are mortered to underlying tile from 1950.

Our Comments: The bar and mesh can be removed, but it is not a convenient to do so as it is bolted in place. Regarding the brick and stone divider that was added to your fireplace, that can be removed. It is most likely added to resolve a smoke issue, which is a common problme with open ended fireplaces. If you remove the divider, I recommend adding glass doors, which will help solve the smoke problem. I included that as the last option below.

Glass Door Mesh Options

If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.

We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
