Customer Comments: Greg, We are looking for an outdoor screen for our patio fireplace, see attached pics. We don't need a smoke "hood" and the top and would like a sliding screen that can go in our existing fireplace and not stick out on the patio, we have a flat front with no step in front of the fireplace. We like #9 on the screens as an example, without the parts that might stick out. We want it to recess into the fireplace and not stick out. We are open to your suggestions so please make them. Look forward to hearing from you.
Our Comments: The bricks around the opening pose a design challenge, so I have created examples of several ways to hide them. I also included the basic bar and mesh options you requested for comparison. Each of these options is made from materials designed to handle the elements outdoors. Mesh is stainless steel with a durble black enamel finish.
Fireplace Opening: Unknown
In these mockups, the bar and mesh is set inside between the bricks and is shown with a matching bottom bar like Option #9 as you requested .
Frame screens are similar to a bar and mesh, but have a 4 sided frame that can be made to cover the exposed bricks around the opening
Mesh doors offer the most spark protection and can be made from sold brass painted black or zinc coated wrought iron. Featuring stainless steel flat wire mesh painted black.
If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.
We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
