Our Comments: Here are some options of doors that can be custom made to cover the imperfections in the stones.
Approximate Fireplace Dimensions:

Before:
Steel doors are heavy duty and rugged and are laser cut from 3/16" thick solid steel, so the frames can be made as wide as necessary to cover the damage stone.
Option #1: Legend Steel Glass Door with Extra Wide Frame and 1 1/2" Finished Returns to cover damaged stone. Shown with Clear Glass and Gate Mesh Backup Doors. Overall Finished Size: 48" W x 30 1/2" H x 1 1/2" D
Option #2: Legend Steel Glass Door with Extra Wide Frame, Tuscan Decorative Louver and 1 1/2" Finished Returns to cover damaged stone. Shown with Clear Glass and Gate Mesh Backup Doors. Overall Finished Size: 48" W x 30 1/2" H x 1 1/2" D
Option #3: Hearth Creations Flat Steel Fireplace Glass Door with Extra Wide Frame in Matte Black. Shown with Gray Glass and Gate Mesh Backup Doors. Overall Finished Size: 48" W x 30 1/2" H x 3/16" D. This door cannot be burned with the doors closed.
The least expensive alternative would be to have a 3/16" steel surround with an aluminum door.
Option #4: Design Specialties Steel Surround Trim with Savannah Aluminum Glass Door in Matte Black. Shown with Gray Glass and Mesh Curtains. Overall Finished Size: 48" W x 30 1/2" H x 3/16" D (surround trim).

If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.
We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
