Customer Comments: Need glass doors to keep cold air out of bedroom.
Our Comments: Here are some examples of glass doors that can be made to fit the shape of your fireplace mantel. A template will be required. We will make the frame 1/4" smaller than the template and the gap can be filled with grout or mortar.
Fireplace Opening: 40" W x 35" H
Steel doors are more substantial than the less expensive aluminum doors. They are heavy duty and rugged and are more customizable because the frames are laser cut.
These doors are hand crafted by skilled artisans from Solid Brass or Steel, depending on the finish that is desired. Very high end, and very refined. Items made from solid brass come in a wide variety of hand crafted patinas and other finishes. Satin Nickel finishes done on solid brass are the finest quality and will not rust like plated steel.
Use your imagination to create the perfect fireplace screen with these solid brass castings from Stone Manufacturing. Compliment architectural details in the mantel or other furnishings in our home, or simply create your own unique look. Available in a wide variety of finishes.
It appears that the legs of your mantel legs come right up to the fireplace opening. Same at the top of the arch, so I suggest making a template this way:
Template Instructions:
1: Measure the overall width of the mantel between the legs in the middle
2: Measure the overall width between the mantel feet at the bottom
3: Measure the overall height of the mantel from the floor to the bottom at the middle of the arch
1: Cut a piece of cardboard exactly 15” tall to the exact width of the fireplace opening (40”).
2: Tape it up inside the opening from the back side so it is flush up to the mantel.
3: Trace the mantel with a pencil making sure the line is visible on the cardboard.
4: Measure the height from the floor to the bottom of the cardboard on the left, middle and right side
If the overall height of the mantel is 35”, the height you measure should measure 20”
1: Cut 2 pieces of cardboard into squares roughly 12 x 12
2: Make sure the bottom and sides are a perfect right angle
3: Tape the squares to the back side of the legs as shown
4: Hold the square in place as you trace the shape of the foot.
1: Take a picture with the 3 template pieces still taped to the fireplace and a tape measure showing the overall height just like shown in the example below.
If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.
We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
