Customer Comments: Considering a custom screen to fit inside of the soapstone, brushed brass anodized finish, mesh screen, top handle to easily remove to tend the fire This is a Rumford design fireplace, the dimensions inside of the soapstone are 36" W x 37.5" T. Slightly out of square This is a new home in Siasconset, MA an old fishing village on the island of Nantucket. The style is transitional with some period details such as this fireplace, I’m open to suggestion's.
Our Comments: We highly recommend overlapping the opening by 1/2" to 3/4" on the top and each side. This will make the screen much more stable is it can lean against the fireplace. There are rear stabilizer legs on the back side that allow the screen to stand on its own when you set it aside while tending the fire, but they will not prevent someone from pushing the screen over inside the fireplace if someone accendentally leans against it or falls into it. Also, brass and gold finishes will hold up better if they are protected by overlapping the opening. Side handles near the top make it easiest to move the screen with better balance.

The least expensive custom free standing screens are made from steel with a powder coat finish.
These screens are hand crafted from real solid brass and are made to last a lifetime. There are many finishes available, but we have chosen satin brass in these mockups as you requested. See the large variety of trims and finishes below avaialble on these screens. Traditional screens like these are almost always accompanied with matching tools and andirons.
Glass doors are the all around best choice when it comes to functionality. When you have a fire, you will normally leave the damper open all night. If you have glass doors, you can close the glass to keep the heat in the home when the fire is done. You can have gate mesh backup doors behind the glass so you can burn with the doors open. Or, you can just have mesh doors without glass. The options below can be made both ways.
Some aluminum doors can be made in an anodized satin brass finish. These are great alternatives for applications near the ocean.
Use your imagination to create the perfect fireplace screen with these solid brass castings from Stone Manufacturing. Compliment architectural details in the mantel or other furnishings in our home, or simply create your own unique look. Available in a wide variety of finishes.
If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.
We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
