Customer Comments: This is a prefab fireplace. I can't find a tag anywhere. The doors and frames are gone. The dimensions of a new frame were inserted would need to be 36 x 21.5
Our Comments: It appears that the previous frame may have had vents to allow air to flow into the open areas on all 4 sides of the opening. There are vent holes around the inside of the opening that cannot be covered and special doors must be made that do not restrict airflow to those vents. Otherwise, the fireplace can potentially overheat and cause the framing in the wall to catch fire.
Fireplace Opening: 36" W x 21 1/2" H
This is a steel door made to overlap the opening. Notice the slot in the frame on all 4 sides just outside the glass. This allows proper airflow into the fireplace. This is the least expensive option we can provide that is safe. You must burn a fire with the doors open.
These doors have a surround trim that covers the entire metal fireplace front. The surround has slots above and below the glass to allow air to flow into the vents on the top and bottom. The glass doors have 1/4" gap between the glass and the frame on the left and right side to allow air to flow in on the sides.
If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.
We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
