Custom Fireplace Glass Doors for Heatilator Fireplace - Project #20186

Customer Comments: Hi Greg, Just searching web and came across your website. Very intriguing. We have a converted wood to gas fireplace very small in NH converted last November. I have tried multiple times to get the log insert repair guys to minimize the soot on the fireplace wall and the speed of the flame burning, very loud. And, after three visits we are not getting very far. Dimensions of fireplace open g are 33 inches wide and 26.5 to 26.75 tall, house was built in 1929. As you can see the gas log unit is providing lots of soot on the brick wall fireplace wall. The heat-a-lators do not work. We rarely use this fireplace however, when we do, we enjoy it and like the gas log effect of generating heat. Wondering if we can get a fold back doors open 110 degrees as opposed to 90 degrees. The thermostat to the downstairs is also located in this room so we have to monitor heat so that the gas fireplace does not upset the balance of the heat in the original part of the house. It's one zone. Other heat option s for the newer additions. Wondering if there's an attractive solution to closing it off to minimize soot accumulation on the brick wall, yet keep the pilot running, we do not shit it off to avoid pilot spider issues etc. This is a very shallow fireplace. There is a new damper installed (chain on the right). Look forward to hearing from you. Thank you.

Our Comments: Most of our doors open 180 degrees flat to the fireplace or very close to that depending on the frame. Some have sliding doors, which you might find interesting. With that said, gas logs cannot be burned behind closed doors, so you must open them when you light the logs. You can close them and leave the pilot running. We can add doors with a wider frame at the top to shrink the opening height, which may improve the draft of the fireplace and help reduce smoke coming out of the fireplace. Here are some examples of doors we recommend. Once we recieve the picture of you room, we may make other recommendations based on your decor.

Affordable Aluminum Doors

Aluminum is an excellent material for fireplace doors because it does not rust and can handle high temperatures when treated with powder coated finishes. It is also the most affordable.

Steel doors are more substantial than the less expensive aluminum doors. They are heavy duty and rugged and are more customizable because the frames are laser cut.

Glass Door Mesh Options

If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.

We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
