Customer Comments: Good Evening - we are interested in custom fireplace doors. We want to be able to close the doors while the fire is burning. We do like the Carolina Windowpane and the Carolina Sunrise Panes designs. We like the rustic black finish. Fireplace opening is 39 3/4" wide x 26 5/8" high. The current doors are 44 3/4" wide x 29 1/4" high.
Our Comments: Here are mockups of the Carolina doors and a couple others that can be burned with the doors closed. The Design Specialties doors have tempered glass, which can handle sustained temperatures up to 450F-500F. The fire should be at least 8" from the glass when burning with the doors closed. The Hearth Creations door has pyro ceramic glass, which can handle temperatures up to 1200F, allowing for hotter fires with the flames closer to the glass.

Aluminum is an excellent material for fireplace doors because it does not rust and can handle high temperatures when treated with powder coated finishes. It is also the most affordable.
Steel doors are more substantial than the less expensive aluminum doors. They are heavy duty and rugged and are more customizable because the frames are laser cut.
Hand crafted doors take on a more rugged natural look for those who appreciate craftsmanship tasteful details.
These doors are made by Portland Willamette and have ceramic glass with clean edges for a much nicer look when burning with the doors closed. The glass can handle sustained temperatures from 1200F upwards to 1400F, which is about 2.5 times better than tempered glass.
If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.
We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.

Please remove all objects from in front of the fireplace opening before you take your pictures (existing screen, plants or anything else). If you have an existing glass door, take pictures with the doors open and closed.
Once I recieve your pictures, I will create several mockups and post them to a project page and send you a link to view and them with others for their input. I will follow up with you to discus your project, quote prices and help you choose the treatment that suits you best.
