Customer Comments: Hello I'm looking for a custom smoke guard for an outdoor fireplace that's rust proof, brown color, maybe black will do and durable to endure the humidity near the southeast coast. The fireplace box height is large resulting in smoke bellowing out the front. At times there are crosswinds. I did a quick test by taking aluminum foil about 8 to 10 inches in height across the top and it eliminated the problem. At one point I thought of a recessed fireplace screen by other vendors but the top is open and would not resolve the problem. The width is approximately 40.5 and the height 36.25. The isokern magnum fireplace was used and stone veneer applied to the outside. There are adjustable smoke guards but they are for indoor fireplaces. The manufacturer of these days they would rust out within a year. I could build up the bottom but that would result in a shorter smoke flue that may cause other issues.
Our Comments: Below are some great alternatives for a firelace like yours. All of these are designed specifically for extended durability in outdoor applications.
Fireplace Opening: 40 1/2" W x 36 1/4" H
We can make smoke guards with or without mesh curtains. They can be made from solild brass or zinc coated wrought iron to handle outdoor weather conditions in coastal regions. The curtains are solid brass painted black with a baked enamel. We also offer the option of a glass smoke guard using solid brass and stainless steel hardware.
You can add a stainless steel glass door in front of any of the above smoke guards. This allows you to close the doors during windy conditions where the fire is being disrupted.
The Pet Deterrent Channel illustrated above helps prevent pets and small children from pushing the mesh inward and getting into the fireplace. This can be added to the F92 bottom bar, which also prevents logs from rolling out into the fireplace. When installing a bar and mesh, it is always a great idea to add the matching F92 bottom bar with the Pet Deterrent Channel.
If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.
We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
