Custom Glass Door for Firelace with Stepped Opening - Project #20263

Customer Comments: This is a 90 year old fireplace. The damper is stuck in the open position and one chimney specialist says it can’t be unstuck without damaging the integrity of the chimney. Don't know if that's true, but I will be installing a damp cap. I'd love a minimalist style that's in the color brown to match the wood trim and ceiling beams in photo 3.

Our Comments: We can have a door made from solid steel or hand forged wrought iron. The wrought iron doors have textured metal from the forging process that can also be hammered for a more rustic look. They truly add a look of craftsmanship to the fireplace. The steel doors come in a flat powder coat finish for a more modern look. Both types of doors can be made with ceramic glass for burning with the doors closed or tempered glass that should be burned open. Gate mesh backup doors can be made for when you burn a fire with the doors open.

Glass Door Mesh Options

If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.

We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
