Customer Comments: There is a 5' wide doorway on each side of this fireplace. The doors are contemporary, architect-designed, custom made, with elements of walnut, iron and glass. I need both a custom grate and enclosure for this and for one other fireplace I will submit separately. The dimensions of this fireplace are 50" at back 59.25" at front + 5/8" limestone 20 and 5/8" depth of soapstone firebox Limestone opening 59 1/8" bottom but only 59" at top x 37 5/8" high Left 37.75" center 37 5/8" high right. I would like the grate to be 1" not 1/2" steel.
Our Comments: I have created 3 mockups showing basic treatment options on a high level. Once we decide which type of treatment you want, I can create more specific mockups.
Fireplace Opening: ~59" W x 37 5/8" H
This will provide the most open view of the fire with no obstruction. It is less functional as you must move it aside and stand it on the floor every time you tend the fire.
Mesh doors are more convenient because they simply open and close when you tend the fire. If you want a cabinet door, we must use a very heavy duty wrought iron door so it does not sag, as shown in Option #2. Otherwise, we make a single door with fixed end panels like Option #3.
Glass doors are the most convenient and offer a full view of the fire. Doors like the one below can have ceramic glass that allows you to burn a fire with the doors open or fully closed. You can have sliding mesh curtains or cabinet gate mesh backup doors behind the glass to protect from sparks when the doors are open.
Mesh Curtains are very convenient and eash to use. You can slide them open when the fireplace is not being used to show off your modern great with andirons.
This was sent to us subsequent to the initial mockups
If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.
We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
