Customer Comments: Gas Logs, Natural Gas Greg. We have a 2 sided fireplace. One side opens into a sitting area in front of the kitchen. The other opens into the living room. The fireplace is constructed from fieldstone and is about 25 feet high. Looking for gas logs (natural gas). We assume we will need logs of both sides.
Our Comments: See through fireplaces use special "See Through" gas log sets that have a burner that produces flames and glowing embers on both sides. The front and back logs are the same size, so there really is no front and back. Most see through log sets are made for fireplaces that are much shallower than yours, more like 24" to 30" deep. Yours is very deep at 40". Grand Canyon makes a "Jumbo" see through gas log that has much more massive logs and occupies more space, which is what I recommend for your application. I am including mockups of all of the other see through logs only because the Jumbo log sets are very expensive and you may need to consider the more reasonably priced alternatives that are not as massive.
Be sure to review the Burner Options Below
Fireplace Opening: 48" W x 30" H x 40" Deep
Here are the different types of controls available. For gas logs this size, you will probably always want the flames at the maximum height, otherwise you may not see much flame at all, so height adjustment is not important in my opinion.
Remote control options will have a somewhat large black box attached to the burner that can be unsightly. Match-Light burners do not have this and manual on/off safety pilot are more inconspicuous. I suggest adding andirons when using the remote valves to help hide the box. These will also help fill the fireplaces like yours that are very deep.
If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.
We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
