Custom Glass Doors for Old Heatilator Fireplace with Side Pull Chain Access - Project #20444

Customer Comments: I appreciate any suggestions to replace or alternative choices. The actual door is 38Wx27.5H. Add 1-1.5 inch around door 40Wx28H is total from side to side.

Our Comments: This is a rare old firelace with the side pull chain levers. We can build a new door to cover all of the black metal. We will not know exactly how the door needs to be built until you remove the existing one, but the example below is what I believe can work. We may need to add a louver at the top since I cannot see what is currently behind the hood at the top of your door. We can also add a hood if necessary.

Custom Fireplace Door with Side Access Panels

This door is made from laser cut steel. The side doors have a wire mesh to help hide what is behind them. They have hinges so they can easily open and close. We opted to show them without handles for a clean look. The door frame can easily be attached using magnets.

Glass Door Mesh Options

If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.

We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
