Customer Comments: Hello, I'd like a quote for the most minimal fireplace door you have. I currently have a gas fireplace, but I worry about fumes. It smells when I light it, but it could be because the log set is new. Black frame, custom fit to ensure minimal fumes escape. Thank you!
Our Comments: It is important for you to know that you CANNOT burn your gas logs with glass doors closed, it creates a potential for an explosion. Gas log manufacturers will have this warning highlighted in their installation/operational manuals.
Benefit of glass doors with gas logs: If your logs were installed properly, a clamp is attache to the damper to prevent it from ever closing all the way, which is another safety requirement for gas logs. Because the damper is always open, there is a constant draft from the flue. Adding glass doors significantly blocks the cold air from coming into your home and hot air from escaping through the chimney.
Fireplace Opening: 48" W x 30 1/2" H
Aluminum is an excellent material for fireplace doors because it does not rust and can handle high temperatures when treated with powder coated finishes. It is also the most affordable.
Steel doors are more substantial than the less expensive aluminum doors. They are heavy duty and rugged and are more customizable because the frames are laser cut.
These doors are hand crafted by skilled artisans from Solid Brass or Steel, depending on the desired finish. Very high end, and very refined, these doors are designed for the most minimalist look.
If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.
We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
